What is the Salary Calculator?

A salary calculator that converts between hourly, weekly, biweekly, monthly, and annual pay; estimates take-home after taxes in 9 countries; and adjusts for cost-of-living when comparing global offers. The conversions are exact; the tax math is an approximation for median earners (real-world tax depends on filing status, deductions, brackets).

Most online salary calculators are US-only. We cover US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, India, Pakistan, and UAE -useful for remote workers, contractors negotiating global rates, and anyone comparing what a salary actually buys across borders.

Real use cases

  • You got a $50/hr contract offer. Hourly → annual = $104K. Take-home in US after FICA + federal ≈ $79K. Now compare to your salary job.
  • You're moving from London (£70K) to Dubai (AED equivalent). UK take-home ≈ £49K, UAE 0% tax = full AED gross. Calculate equivalent purchasing power.
  • Offer letter says $100K annual gross. Pakistan tax slabs put your take-home around $82K. Plan accordingly.
  • Junior dev in India earning ₹12 LPA wants to know what equivalent salary in US would feel similar. COL adjustment gives the answer.
  • Negotiating a remote role for a US company while in Pakistan. Calculator shows what hourly rate in USD matches your target PKR take-home.
  • Trying to decide between Berlin (€80K) and Toronto (CAD 95K). Take-home + COL together show which actually leaves you better off.

Frequently asked questions

Is the salary calculator free?

Yes. Unlimited use, no signup, no daily cap. All math runs in your browser. Salary.com is free but ad-supported and US-only; we cover 9 countries with cost-of-living comparison.

Which countries are supported?

Nine: United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, India, Pakistan, UAE. Effective tax rates and social-security contributions are baked in (rough averages, not personalized advice).

How accurate are the tax rates?

They're approximate averages for median earners. Real tax depends on filing status, deductions, credits, state/province, and specific tax brackets. Use this as a planning estimate, not for filing.

What's the difference between gross and net?

Gross is what your offer letter says. Net (take-home) is what hits your bank after income tax + social security deductions. The gap is usually 25-45% depending on country.

Can I convert hourly to annual?

Yes. Type any frequency (hourly, weekly, biweekly, monthly, annual), all the others compute. Hourly assumes standard 40-hour week, 52 weeks/year.

What's cost-of-living adjustment?

It shows what your salary is worth in another country, normalized to local cost of living. $100K in NYC has the buying power of about $30K in Karachi. Useful for remote workers comparing global offers.

Are bonuses or stock factored in?

Not directly. Type total gross including expected bonus + RSU vesting if you want a full picture. The calculator handles whatever number you give it as 'gross'.

Why is Germany's effective rate so high?

Germany combines income tax (progressive up to 45%) with heavy social contributions (pension + health + unemployment + care ≈ 20% employee share). Effective combined for middle-income hits 40-50%.

Does UAE really have 0% income tax?

Yes for individuals (no personal income tax). UAE nationals contribute to pension; expats do not. Corporate tax exists since 2023 (9%) but doesn't affect personal salary.

Is my salary data private?

Yes. The whole calculator runs in your browser. We never see your numbers. No log, no analytics on the input.
